Sales and Inventory Manager

Full time

Schedule: This position's schedule will shift slightly based on the needs of our plants and customers. 

From March - September the position will be a minimum of 36 hours a week scheduled Tuesday - Saturday. When we begin to slow down in October and watering on the weekends is no longer needed, the schedule will shift to Monday - Thursday, Fridays as needed.

36-40 hours/week: Mar - Sept, Tues - Sat

32-36 hours/week: Oct - Feb, Mon - Thurs

*our production manager will work with the candidate if some weekends off are needed*

About our Company and the Position:

Great Bear Native Plants is a family-operated, woman-owned business in Hamilton, MT. We grow native plants for projects ranging from humble home gardens to mine reclamation on thousands of acres. This position will have the opportunity to work in the greenhouses and with our outdoor inventory to better understand the business and also to get some time out of the office! After an introductory period, working from home for up to 1 day a week may be considered.

Job Description:

Plant Sales and Planning:

  • Direct sales to new and recurring restoration clients, retail nursery clients, landscape professions, government entities, non-profits, private parties, etc.

  • Manage retail ready program including: serving as the primary point of contact; lead on retail production and production planning; preparing, loading and delivering orders; managing employees in the retail section of the nursery; lead plant maintenance; create weekly orders based on plant readiness; prepare paperwork for deliver drivers

  • Develop new customer leads

  • General sales activities including database management, reporting, preparing quotes and bids, creating sales and marketing materials, updating catalogs and other duties as assigned

  • Attend trade shows, conferences, meetings, etc on behalf of GBNP.

  • Maintain positive relationships with existing and potential clients.

  • Expedite the resolution of customer problems and complaints to maximize satisfaction and benefit GBNP sales and reputation.

  • Review shipped orders for final invoicing and communicate with the office manager about invoicing needs.

  • Work with greenhouse manager, general manager and other members of the sales team to develop a sales and production plan for current and future sales.

 

Inventory Management:

  • Lead on conducting physical inventory of plant products and entering data into our database.

  • Lead on ensuring crops are properly labeled.

  • Communicating pest and culture concerns to the lead propagator.

  • Work with the production team to meet production goals.

 

General Greenhouse Assistance:

  • Assist with restoration pot-ups in partnership with the production team. 

  • Assist with sowing, thinning, watering and fertilizing in the greenhouses as directed.

  • Assist with soil mixing and filling pots.

  • Assist with pest management.

  • Assist with shipping as needed (prep, scheduling, etc).

 

Skills & Experience we Hope You’ll Bring:

  • Word processing (word, excel, ppt, pdf, etc) and website proficiency

  • 1+ years of experience in a similar role and/or experience and knowledge working with plants in a horticultural, field work and/or agricultural setting

  • Valid Montana driver's license and car 

  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and organizational skills

  • Initiative and willingness to take on tasks from large to small

  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills

  • Willingness to be a team player & work in a team environment

  • Proven ability to field multiple requests at once, prioritize, and follow through

  • Relationship management skills and openness to feedback

  • Physical ability to lift large packages and assemble/disassemble items of varying sizes
